Havana, the capital of Cuba, is the largest city in the Caribbean, and surely one of its most culturally vibrant. The city's appreciation of its glorious colonial past is reflected in its numerous castles, cathedrals, mansions and museums. The historic neighborhood of Habana Vieja is a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage site, with almost a thousand landmarks, including the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, the Gran Teatro, the Plaza vieja, Plaza de las Palomas and the iconic edificio Bacardi. All of them within walking distance.

But while history is treasured in Havana, culture is celebrated. Cuba's love for music and dance spills out in clubs, cabarets and spontanious street-side salsas. The city hosts some of the world's best ballet schools and dance companies, and its theatre community is unrivaled in the Caribbean. While the carribean spirit overflows the nummerous lively bars and cafes in the city, the cultural dynamism of Havana keeps inspiring writers, poets and philosophers. No wonder luminaries such as Ernest Hemingway and Federico Garcia Lorca spent large parts of their lives here.
